Akka Cafe: Turning Women into Cafe Entrepreneurs Across Karnataka

National Livelihood Mission, Karnataka

expanding to 250+ cafe’s across Karnataka

The challenge

Thousands of women in Karnataka’s self-help groups worked as informal cooks without access to structured, sustainable livelihood opportunities. The vision of Akka Cafe was to transform these women into professional café entrepreneurs while creating a warm, culturally rooted brand that resonated with local communities and celebrated women’s empowerment.

Our Role

Nano Media, led by Muhassin, handled the conceptualisation, branding, and design of Akka Cafe from creating a distinct identity to designing interiors, merchandise, and customer touchpoints. The initiative launched its first model café in Bengaluru and scaled to nine cafes across Karnataka.
The design strategy integrated Chittara art, representing strength and resilience, and extended across logo, brand guidelines, marketing collateral, social media presence, and in-store branding. This holistic approach ensured that every Akka Cafe not only served food but also stood as a visible symbol of empowerment and entrepreneurship.
